As you’ve heard by now, Rick Gates has struck a plea deal with Robert Mueller and is going to testify against Paul Manafort, which in quite literally the worst case scenario for Donald Trump. We know this because of what Trump revealed to his friends and aides just days ago, which has now been given to the media.
LA Times reports: “The imminent change of Gates’ plea follows negotiations over the last several weeks between Green and two of Mueller’s prosecutors – senior assistant special counsels Andrew Weissmann and Greg D. Andres.
According to a person familiar with those talks, Gates, a longtime political consultant, can expect “a substantial reduction in his sentence” if he fully cooperates with the investigation. He said Gates is likely to serve about 18 months in prison.”
The fact that Gates is still willing to talk knowing that he is going to go to prison is pretty much the worst case scenario for those that he conspired with. More people will end up in prison over this, and the next person in line is most likely Paul Manafort.
It doesn’t take much effort to figure out that Paul Manafort will flip on Donald Trump. That may sound like speculation on the surface, as it would require Manafort to actually have something to flip on Trump about.
NBC News reported just days ago that Donald Trump has been telling friends and aides in private that things are going great — for him.
Some reasons: He’s decided that a key witness in the Russia probe, Paul Manafort, isn’t going to “flip” and sell him out, friends and aides say.
If Trump is talking about Manafort “flipping” on him, then there’s clearly something Manafort has on him. There’s no chance Manafort is willing to go to prison, so it’s a virtual certainty that Robert Mueller will get what he wants out of Paul Manafort.
Buckle up, Trump.
