Secretary of Defense James Mattis resigning in protest of Trump a few weeks ago was a huge blow to the Trump administration. Then reports started coming in that key U.S. military leaders were avoiding Trump, so now that other’s are resigning, we are not surprised.
The Department of Defense Chief of Staff Rear Admiral Kevin Sweeney just announced his resignation. In his resignation letter Sweeney said:
“After two years in the Pentagon, I’ve decided the time is right to return to the private sector. It has been an honor to serve again alongside the men and women of the Department of Defense.”
Notice nothing about it being an honor to serve under the President.
Sweeney isn’t the first to resign last week. He followed the Department of Defense official spokesperson Dana White. The turnover rate in this administration is astounding. This is clearly an indication of the tension from Trump trickling down.
Trump has had more resignations that any other U.S. President. After General Mattis told the U.S. military to turn against Trump, we can only expect even more people to resign at the Department of Defense. At this rate there won’t be anyone left of this administration in a couple months, and we can only hope that means the President will be gone as well.
