Democrats Just Humiliated Donald Trump…and He Didn’t Take It Well

Yesterday, on the verge of a potential government shutdown, President Donald Trump hosted congressional Democratic leaders Rep. Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) and Sen. Chuck Schumer (D-NY) at the White House in order to negotiate a new spending bill in hopes of preventing the shutdown.

While both Pelosi and Schumer preferred to negotiate the bill privately behind closed doors, Trump thought it would be best to allow news cameras to capture their conversation (and for this, we are thankful!).

Naturally, the border wall made its way into the conversation due to its astronomical budget. Although both Democrats were respectful with the president, they were firm in explaining how the legislative process works. However, when Trump joked about how easy it would be to fund the wall, things got a little heated.

“I would not like to see the government close… [but] we will see what happens over the next short period of time,” Trump said.

“It’s called funding the government, Mr. President,” Schumer said.

Later, Schumer called Trump out over his constant lies.  He even went so far as to confront him about the “bottomless Pinocchio” rating the Washington Post has awarded to him.

Then, Schumer cornered Trump on funding the government and his child-like threat to shutdown the government if he doesn’t get his way on the border wall. According to Schumer, Congress has a plan in place to avoid a shutdown and has the votes to send it to Trump’s desk. However, Trump chose to stick to his guns by claiming if it isn’t what he wants, he won’t allow it.

“If it’s not good border security I won’t take it,” Trump said.

Not to be overlooked or unheard, Pelosi interjected and called Trump out over his claims to have Republican support for the wall.

“The fact is, you do NOT have the votes in the House,” Pelosi said.

“Nancy, Nancy, I do,” Trump claimed.

“If I needed the votes for the wall in the House, I would have them in one session,” Trump claimed.

“Well then go do it!” Pelosi replied.

Unsurprisingly, near the closing portion of the meeting, Trump’s demeanor hadn’t changed as he actually had the audacity to say he would be “proud” to shut the government down over border security.

“I will take the mantle!” Trump said. “I will be the one to shut it down.”
