As the Trump ship continues to sink, he’s looking around to see who he can drag down with him. He’s gone after fellow Republicans and the media, but he can’t seem to find a scapegoat for his failure. It appears he’s now set his sights on Speaker of the House Paul Ryan with a little help from Russia of course.
Trump’s trying to push the blame of the failed Trumpcare on Ryan and since Ryan has been avoiding the spotlight, he’s made it pretty easy. Newsweek is reporting that Russian bots are now targeting Ryan, an action that would have had to be approved by Trump’s team given what we know about Trump’s team working with the Russians for political gain.
Russian-linked bots and trolls have caused a surge in use of the hashtag #ResignPaulRyan on Twitter over the last 48 hours, just as the Republican speaker of the House was returning to his home state of Wisconsin for a month-long respite from Washington, D.C.
The unusual boost in Russian bots targeting a Republican lawmaker was first observed by the German Marshall Fund’s Alliance for Securing Democracy, created after the 2016 presidential election to “defend against, deter, and raise the costs on Russian and other state actors’ efforts to undermine democracy and democratic institutions.”
Who on Trump’s team would sign off on this? Bannon has been linked to the Russians before in an apparent attack on National Security Adviser H.R. McMaster. But could Bannon get away with colluding with the Russians without Trump’s stamp of approval?
Bannon doesn’t do anything without Trump’s approval but he is the one who comes up with the outlandish conspiracy theories, so our money is on both of them being involved. Their goal has to be more than just getting Ryan out of the Speaker position. They must be going for the full takedown.
Trump is going to go down pointing the finger at everyone else, and to be honest, it will be fun to watch “the swamp” be drained because they are all wrapped up in Trump’s scandal.
