On Tuesday, Donald Trump went to Kenosha, Wisconsin to tout his “Buy American, Hire American” executive order. While he talks big about American products and manufacturing and jobs, he doesn’t back it up with his own actions.
First, the new Trump hotel in Washington D.C. is filled with imported products.
Next, of course, we need to mention that Ivanka’s products are all made in China.
Eric Trump’s winery has applied for multiple guestworker visas in the last several months.
Those are just a few examples.
The point is, it’s incredibly ironic for the President to talk tough about buying and hiring American, when he and his family don’t even care that they hardly ever do the same.
And, that’s not the only problem with the Executive Order. For instance, this take on Trump’s pledge to crack down on H-1B visas:
“It doesn’t do anything,” said William Stock, president of the American Immigration Lawyers Association (AILA) in Philadelphia. That’s because the changes Trump campaigned on need to be approved by Congress.
“Wage levels? Set by Congress. H-1B lottery system? Set by Congress. Changing the way visas are allocated…He needs to talk to Congress.”
Trump doesn’t follow through on anything, so for now, we can just chalk up this EO as tough talk he probably will forget about soon. But, it would be nice if our President would at least pretend to care about the mandates he sets for Americans by encouraging his family to comply with them also.
