Thursday, January 3, 2019: A day that sane America had been longing for for two years. It’s the day that Democrats took control of the House of Representatives and started to bring some of the checks and balances back to the American Government. And that all started with Nancy Pelosi being sworn in as House Speaker.
Pelosi already had, it turns out, the perfect plan to outsmart both President Donald Trump (which isn’t hard) and Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell to get them to reopen the Government and end the nearly two weeks long shutdown that Trump has caused with his temper tantrum over his border wall funding.
On Wednesday, joined by incoming House Majority Leader Steny Hoyer (D-MD) and Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY), Pelosi told reporters the first thing her House would do:

To put this another way, Pelosi will introduced the same funding bill that Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) shepherded through the Senate by voice vote two weeks ago — which does not include funding for Trump’s wall. (Well played, Nancy)
So, Mitch McConnell had two choices: 1) Bring the original bill to the floor, which will almost certainly pass, after which Trump will have to either surrender or veto it and once again be responsible for the shutdown. 2) McConnell could block the bill from going to a vote at all, and share the blame with Trump for the shutdown.
The fight to reopen the government continues, but one thing is certain: Nancy Pelosi has Trump’s number and should be very afraid of what she means for his Presidency.
