Jared Kushner may be a big part of popular vote loser Donald Trump’s administration and inner circle, but if things keep progressing as they are right now, he’ll also be a big part of what eventually and inevitably brings the Trump presidency crashing down.
The Wall Street Journal is reporting that federal prosecutors in New York have subpoenaed Kushner Cos., the property business development company owned by Kushner’s family.
According to the Journal’s report, the subpoenas are due to concern with the company’s “investment-for-immigration program;” investigators are looking into the possibility that one New Jersey development was financed in part by investors who believed they could secure green cards by investing in the property. CNBC points out:
The matter concerns Kushner Companies‘ use of the EB-5 federal visa program — a scheme that grants green cards to immigrants who invest $500,000 in certain U.S. businesses that are slated to create 10 jobs per investor.
It wasn’t clear what violation was being investigated, but the subpoena involves at least one Jersey City project that was partly funded by EB-5, the Journal said.
Kushner’s sister, Nicole Meyer, drew scrutiny earlier this year after a marketing pitch targeting Chinese investors who may have been told that if they put $500,000 towards the development they could receive green cards under the EB-5 visa program.
The subpoena includes a request for all emails from the company.
Someone in Donald Trump’s inner circle being investigated for corruption? So it aint so. Shocking.
