Rachel Maddow asked a question on her show that more journalists should be asking: Where did all the money Trump raised for his inauguration go? He bragged about raising over $100 million, but there is no way that much was spent on the events.
A lot of the funds were donated by oil execs with the Citgo company. Wadie Habboush, the son of the Citgo businessman who donated to Trump, was granted a meeting with the National Security Council where he presented a “detailed plan to improve political relations with Venezuela and lift U.S. sanctions in exchange for opening up the South American country to potential business opportunities with U.S.-based companies.”
In other words, Citgo paid for a meeting with the National Security Council, and that money did not go toward paying for the inauguration. It went to line Trump’s pockets.
“In a normal administration, the National Security Council doesn’t get used for stuff like this. National Security Council officials do not have to meet with half million dollars donors to hear their ideas on sanctions for some other country,” Maddow reported. “In a normal administration, the National Security Council isn’t used to pay off donors.”
