Trump loves pardoning people who do not deserve it, like sheriff Joe Arpaio. It may have been Trump’s signal to those wrapped up in his Russian scandal not to worry, because he will take care of them as well.
It turns out though that Robert Mueller is one step ahead of Trump and he’s already found a way to stop Trump in his tracks.
MSNBC is reporting that the Attorney General from at least one state is ready to take on the investigation if Trump finds a way to fire Mueller. Now, Politico is reporting that New York State Attorney General Eric Schneiderman wants to bring state level charges against Paul Manafort.
Special counsel Robert Mueller’s team is working with New York Attorney General Eric Schneiderman on its investigation into Paul Manafort and his financial transactions, according to several people familiar with the matter.
The cooperation is the latest indication that the federal probe into President Donald Trump’s former campaign chairman is intensifying. It also could potentially provide Mueller with additional leverage to get Manafort to cooperate in the larger investigation into Trump’s campaign, as Trump does not have pardon power over state crimes.
The President can’t pardon someone from state level charges and crimes. People may be debating Trump’s constitutional rights to pardon his advisors on federal charges, but it is well established he can’t pardon anyone on state level crimes.
Mueller may just be working closer with the New York Attorney General than anyone knows. This loop-hole can ensure Trump’s inability to pardon those who helped him conspire with Russia to rig the election and commit treason.
Trump’s henchmen are going down one by one and he won’t be far behind them by our estimation.
