Sarah Sanders Gets Called on Her Lies to Her Face By White House Reporter

On Monday, when pressed by a correspondent at the White House press briefing, White House Press Secretary Sanders declined to comment on why she once falsely claimed to reporters that President Donald Trump did not “dictate” a statement on the controversial Trump Tower meeting between Donald Trump Jr. and Russian officials in order to protect his son, when in fact he did.

“If you say one thing from the podium, that it wasn’t dictated by the president,” Josh Dawsey of the Washington Post asked, “as long as you are saying something entirely different and contradicting, how are we supposed to know what to believe? How can we believe what you’re saying from the podium if his lawyers are saying it’s entirely inaccurate.”

After some brief awkwardness, Dawsey continued to press Sanders, saying “You literally said, ‘He did not dictate.’ The lawyers say he did. What is it?”

Sanders, realizing she was caught for spreading lies, deflected the questions to Trump’s outside attorneys so that she wouldn’t have to answer them herself.

“I’m not going to respond to the letter from the president’s outside counsel,” Sanders said. “I would refer you to them for comment.”

The letter in question admits: “You have received all of the notes, communications and testimony indicating that the President dictated a short but accurate response to the New York Times article on behalf of his son, Donald Trump, Jr.,” according to The New York Times, which published a copy of it. “His son then followed up by making a full public disclosure regarding the meeting, including his public testimony that there was nothing to the meeting and certainly no evidence of collusion.”
