Richard Nixon looked into pardoning himself in the Watergate scandal and was told by the Department of Justice he would never be able to get away with it. That sealed his fate. Now Trump is ranting about pardoning himself on his favorite platform, Twitter.
Trump is now including Nixon in his rants. It’s evident we aren’t the only ones who see the resemblance between Nixon’s denials and Trump’s here.
Trump thinks the FBI planted a spy in his campaign, despite leaders on both sides of Congress not agreeing with him. Since he can’t find any intelligent person to support him, he’s using sources like the laughable Judicial Watch. One of their latest stories claim the FBI rigged the entire election against him.
While discussing what the FBI did to the Trump campaign he tweeted:
“Chris Farrell, Judicial Watch. “They were running an operation to undermine a candidate for President of the U.S. These are all violations of law. This is intelligence tradecraft to steer an election. There’s nothing more grave when it comes to abuse of our intelligence system…This is a level of criminality beyond the pale. This is such a grave abuse of power and authority, it’s like nothing else we’ve seen in our history. This makes the Nixon Watergate burglary look like keystone cop stuff…The greatest Witch Hunt in political history!”
Nixon got burglars to steal records so he could alter the outcome of the election. Trump allegedly conspired with the Russian government to steal Democratic Party records to use them to alter the election. Trump not only repeated history, he allegedly did it and, if proven guilty, added a level of treason to it.
Anytime someone calls outs Trump on his mistakes or crimes, he accuses others of doing whatever it is he’s being accused of. Trump’s been talking about pardoning himself and now he’s accusing the FBI of replaying Watergate on him. Trump has to realize just how similar the two instances are and how it’s going to end.
