Popular vote loser Donald Trump has a way of blaming everyone else in the world for whatever his current legal problems are. He also has a way of trying to distance himself from his associates when they start getting indicted and arrested, pretending he barely knows them, even when there’s photographic or recorded or eyewitness proof to the contrary.
Take, for example, the case of former Trump advisor Paul Manafort. Manafort is in deep trouble, and Trump is trying to a) blame the FBI and the DOJ for not telling him in advance that Manafort was a shady criminal creep, and b) trying to distance himself from Manafort by suggesting he barely knew Manafort.
Trump recently tweeted the following:
OK, first of all, the FBI can’t discuss ongoing, open investigations with a Presidential candidate. Second of all, when have you ever taken their warnings and intel about anything seriously anyway, Trump? You were literally warned that the Russians may infiltrate your campaign, yet you did nothing about it.
And, third of all, and perhaps most important to this particular set of blatant Presidential lies, you’ve known, worked with and been close to Paul Manafort for decades, and you absolutely would’ve hired him, without question, regardless of FBI/DOJ information.
Scott Dworkin with the Democratic Coalition points out the following:
Slate published this incredibly detailed timeline proving the Trump/Manafort relationship goes back to the 1980s, so Trump can’t deny knowing the guy.
Not to mention, Manafort’s daughter tells an entirely different story about Trump and Manafort, according to veteran investigative reporter, Kenneth P. Vogel:
MANAFORT and TRUMP “are literally living in the same building and…they go up and down all day long hanging and plotting together” — text from one of Manafort’s daughters to the other on 4/7/16, just days after their dad was hired by the campaign.
AND on 8/18/16, as MANAFORT was being pushed out of TRUMP campaign, his daughter texted a friend: “my dad resigned from being the public face of the campaign. But is still very much involved behind the scenes…Last nights speech was a speech my dad had been pushing him to make…”
Don’t know about you, but I’m kind of getting tired of the President lying about things that are incredibly easy to disprove by either documented, photographic, recorded, or eye-witness evidence.
Trump can claim he barely knows Manafort all he wants, like he’s done with Mike Flynn, George Papadopoulos, but the evidence to the contrary is extremely obvious.
